On a beautiful weekend in May 2014, the Partnership celebrated the tremendous impact its volunteers made on the lives of those experiencing homelessness at its Annual Volunteer Recognition Awards Luncheon held aboard Carnival Cruise's Fun Ship Freedom.

Sponsored by Carnival Cruise Lines and the Sun Sentinel, the Volunteer Recognition Awards honored several groups and individuals who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to help the homeless men, women and families with children the Partnership serves, helping them to rebuild their lives and achieve self-sufficiency.

The 2014 award winners are CarMax and Turner Construction, Corporate Volunteer Award; Business Network International Express Chapters Financial Power Team, Community Group Volunteer Award; First Baptist Church at Weston, Faith-Based Volunteer Award; Kymani Quarrie & Tania Dunbar, Family Volunteer Award; Don Anderson and Burt Sharff, Volunteer of the Year; Max Ribbler, 2014 Legacy Award; and Kevin TaylorGabriel Gomez and Peter Anderson, 2014 Lessons for Life Ambassadors' Award.

CarMax

The employees of CarMax have been volunteering with the Broward Partnership since 2010, donating more than 100 on-campus volunteer hours.  They prepared and served meals, cleaned and repainted the Children’s Learning Center, organized numerous donation drives and recommended The Broward Partnership for CarMax Grants.  To date, the CarMax volunteer team earned the Partnership more than $11,000 in financial contributions.

Turner Construction

Sixty Turner Construction employees from around the globe generously donated their time, expertise and resources on a warm sunny day March 2014.  They gave the Partnership's campus a much-needed ‘spring cleaning’!  In addition to donating all of the necessary supplies and plants, the volunteers repainted the Partnership’s lobby, fences, gazebo and playground area.  Turner Construction volunteers also installed a new irrigation system and planted new shrubbery on the campus.

Velasques

Members of the First Baptist Church of Weston served more than 570 hours since March 2012.  This is a multi-generational group that give up their Saturday morning sleep to arrive at the Center by 5:30AM!  They arrive at the Center bright and early to prepare and serve the breakfast they sponsor in the Partnership’s Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers program.  Following breakfast they offer our only morning Bible study.

Kymani

At the age of seven, Kymani was leaving a Miami Heat game with his Mom and asked why people were sleeping on the streets.  His Mom Tania explained, and he insisted that they help them.  Kymani and his Mom started KQ Cares so no one could tell Kymani he was too young to make a difference.

Kymani and Tania volunteered at the Broward Partnership since June 2010.  This incredible family, with unwavering support from friends and family, donated 240 hours of on-campus time to the Partnership.  They prepared and served 20 meals and often bring desert to make the meals extra special.  Kymani and his Mom have organized drives for towels, clothing and hygiene items – as well as Jeans for Teens.  Kymani never stops on his quest to help the homeless.

Anderson Taylor Gomez

The 2014 Lessons for Life Ambassadors’ Award recognizes Kevin Taylor, Peter Anderson and Gabriel Gomez for dedicating more than one year of consistent service to the Broward Partnership.  Their award honors the commitment of each of the volunteers for their Lesson for Life Seminar monthly seminars.  Our program participants have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and insight about vital life topics presented by these beacons of the South Florida community.

Sergio Hernandez

Carnival Cruise Lines supported the Broward Partnership for many years by providing much-needed financial support as well as effervescent volunteers from their “FUN” team who serve meals at the Partnership, paint and help with our events.  We’re fortunate for Carnival Cruise Lines and their continuing commitment to host the organization for this annual celebration of our volunteers.

Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers (BBBB) is the Partnership's program to engage the community by volunteering to help cook and serve meals as well as to provide financial support for our organization. Interested parties can sponsor a meal for our participants while volunteering in our kitchen. In the last three years, BBBB has had more than 2,200 volunteers help feed the homeless and has raised more than $350,000.

BBBB Hot Dogs

The Broward Partnership provides over 210,000 meals a year. Every day, program participants are served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Groups from corporations, civic and professional associations, high-schools, universities and the faith-based community have the opportunity to sponsor, cook and serve a meal, which feeds 230 men, women and children experiencing homelessness on our campus.
