The 9th annual Breakfast for Champions of the Homeless was a sold out benefit that raised more than $72,000 to support the programs delivered to the homeless by Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc. (BPHI). “Celebrity Waiters,” some of our most important community leaders, worked for “Tips” waiting tables at this unique and fun benefit. The event was co-chaired by Charlene Bender, SVP Regent Bank, Roberta Stanley, partner in the law firm of Brinkley, Morgan, Solomon, Tatum, Stanley, Lunny & Crosby, LLB, Judy Stern, Judith Stern Consulting, Inc. and Courtney Crush, Esq., Crushlaw, PA.

“In these tough economic times we are so thankful for those who reached deep into their pockets and contributed the funds needed for BPHI to continue its efforts to reduce homelessness in Broward County,” said Dan Taylor, director with the law firm of Tripp Scott and chair of  BPHI’s  Board of Directors. “It just demonstrates that our community understands the meaning of helping those in need.”

Named “2009 Champion of the Homeless,” Bank of America was recognized for its more than ten years of support. From the 1999 BPHI Capital Campaign that built the Broward County Central Homeless Assistance Center (Center), to financial donations to support BPHI’s solution-focused programs, to volunteer projects in which its employees have participated, Bank of America truly reflects the face of a caring corporate community.

We are proud of our longstanding partnership with BPHI,” said Mark Maller, Bank of America market president, Broward County. “In challenging times such as these, where more families and individuals face significant pressures, the continuum of solution-focused services offered by organizations like BPHI serves as a critical safety net in our community.”

The Las Olas River House Social Committee was honored with the 2009 BPHI’s Special Recognition Award for the very successful benefit they hosted last January. Led by chair Dr. Eileen Rolnick, more than 100 guests enjoyed an evening of fine dining on the building's gorgeous pool terrace with breathtaking views of downtown Fort Lauderdale and the Riverfront. Guests danced to swing music on the rooftop and as a finale, tried their luck at the "Casino."  The event netted more than $15,000 for BPHI.
