Homeless Families Receive Thanksgiving Gift from City Furniture
Families living at the Homeless Assistance Center received a wonderful Thanksgiving present from City Furniture. Two days before Thanksgiving, City Furniture delivered new living room furniture for the family dormitory. The donation also included furniture for the Children’s Learning Center and the Center’s library.
The ten families who temporarily live in the dormitory were thrilled with the new sofas and chairs that brightened the living room of the dormitory. “My family is so thankful for the shelter and support we receive from BPHI. Without it we would still be living in our car.” said one mother. “I can’t remember the last time I had new furniture. This certainly is a wonderful Thanksgiving gift. “
Families are one of the fastest growing segments among the homeless population. The additional stress of homelessness and shelter living burdens families to maintain normalcy and places the family at high risk of instability. The Family dormitory provides a safe homelike environment where parents can strengthen their family through parenting education/training as well as group support opportunities like “Motivated Moms.” Additionally, the program provides a Children’s Learning Center, on-site early education center for infants and pre-school aged children, transportation of school-aged children to their school of origin and assistance with other day-to-day activities.
Family Services program is supported by the Jim Moran Foundation, AD Henderson Foundation, the United Way of Broward County, and the Broward County Board of Commissioners. |
