Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc. Honors Volunteers
FORT LAUDERDALE –Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc (BPHI) celebrated the outstanding contributions of its volunteers at the 4th Annual Volunteer Recognition Awards Luncheon which was held aboard the Holland America Line, ms Maasdam ship on Friday April 30. Kristin Andersen co-host of WSFL – TV’s The Morning Show served as the emcee for the luncheon, which was attended by 140 volunteers.
Dan Taylor, BPHI Board Chair said “Each and every BPHI volunteer serves as a role model for our residents. The impact of your volunteer efforts is felt each time a resident graduates from our program and moves on to independent living. We also wish to recognize the generous support of the Sun-Sentinel for serving as the official sponsor of BPHI’s volunteer program.”
Over the past year, 2,600 dynamic and motivated volunteers have donated more than 6,300 hours of service to BPHI. Using The Points of Light/Independent Sector hourly value of a volunteer, the 6,300 hours donated by BPHI volunteers, totals over $128,000.
Sponsors for the luncheon included: Presenting Sponsor - Sun-Sentinel, Gold Sponsor - Minto Communities and Underwriter/Host Sponsor - Holland America Line. The event was chaired by BPHI board member Jan Klein with host committee members, Nancy DeMartini, Laura LaFauci and Judy Hilborn.
Honored at the luncheon were: Corporate Volunteer Award – American Express, Community Volunteer Group Award - Fort Lauderdale Bridge Club, Faith based Group Award – Angels of Hope Ministry, Education Volunteer Award – Jared Odessky, Family Volunteer Award, Karen Gordon & Julian McNeill, Outstanding New Volunteer Award – Laurie Cohen, Most Years of Volunteer Service Award – Kevin Taylor.
During the awards ceremony Bob Guida, President of the Fort Lauderdale Bridge Club, made a surprise presentation of a $2,500 donation to BPHI on behalf of the clubs members.
