BROWARD PARTNERSHIP FOR THE HOMELESS

Bank of America Community Volunteers with $100,000 check donated to BPHI

Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc. (BPHI) announced it has received a generous $100,000 donation from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation on September 9, 2011. The check presentation was made during Bank of America's recent volunteer Day of Service at the Broward County Central Homeless Assistance Center/Huizenga Family Campus, where more than 50 bank employees spent the day preparing and serving meals to the homeless residents, sorting donated clothing and cleaning the 200-bed facility.

Lori Chevy, Broward Market President for Bank of America, presented the $100,000 check on behalf of the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to Frances M. Esposito, BPHI’s Chief Executive Officer. The donation marked the second installment of a $200,000 unrestricted grant awarded to BPHI as the recipient of the 2010 Neighborhood Builder Award, part of Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Initiative™.

“The collaboration between Bank of America and Broward Partnership for the Homeless is an exemplary model for meaningful impact in improving the lives of people in the communities we serve,” Chevy said. “Both of our organizations share the common goal of creating opportunities in peoples’ lives, and I’m very proud to be able to present this second installment of the $200,000 Neighborhood Builder award to the Broward Partnership for the Homeless.”

Neighborhood Builders is a competitive award program that recognizes community organizations that set themselves apart, are active visionaries, have strong leaders and create vibrant neighborhoods. Two outstanding nonprofit/charitable organizations in each of Bank of America's 45 markets are selected each year to benefit from operating support and rigorous leadership training through the Neighborhood Builders Program.

Bank of America's contribution will enable BPHI to continue strengthening its organizational capacity and further its mission of reducing homelessness in Broward County. Founded in 1997, BPHI provides more than 1,200 homeless men, women and children each year with emergency shelter, food, clothing and a comprehensive array of solution-focused services, including case management, primary medical and dental care, mental health counseling, job training and placement, parenting education, family therapy and practical life skills classes designed to move individuals to independent living and self-sufficiency.
