3rd Annual BPHI Golfathon Raises More Than $73,000
To Help The Homeless

On Friday, September 16, 2011, local community and business leaders took to the greens for a good cause at Broward Partnership for the Homeless' 3rd Annual Golfathon, which raised more than $73,000 to support BPHI's mission of reducing homelessness in Broward County.

Golfers with a philanthropic spirit were challenged to play 36 holes and raise a minimum of $2,000 in pledges from business associates, friends and family members for each hole played during the fun-filled day of competition, which took place at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club. The event featured two rounds of golf, continental breakfast, luncheon and awards ceremony, followed by a celebratory cocktail reception for golfers and supporters at the Clubhouse.

The 2011 Clubhouse Leader Award for the golfer who raised the most in pledges went to Kevin Leonard of Atlantic Construction & Development, Inc., who single-handedly raised $6,725. Elliot Borkson, Esq. received the Most Valuable Player Award for his pivotal role in recruiting and motivating golfers and supporters. Edward McCluskey of Northwestern Mutual won the "Longest Drive" Competition, and Michael Moskowitz of Moskowitz, Mandell, Salim & Simowitz, P.A. won "Closest to the Pin."

"We are so grateful to all of the golfers and supporters, whose dedication and generosity made this year's Golfathon such an overwhelming success," said Kevin Pickard, BPHI Board Member and Golfathon Chair. "The homeless in our community are real people whose lives have real meaning, and the funds raised from this event will enable BPHI to provide them with the tools and support necessary achieve self-sufficiency and begin rebuilding their lives."

The 3rd Annual BPHI Golfathon was made possible through the generous support of presenting sponsor The Leo Goodwin Foundation.
