After being evicted from their home the Angel family found help at BPHI and will be home for the holidays

Tracy, her husband Joe, and their two children were living in a house in Pompano Beach when Joe lost his job as a landscaping foreman. When they were unable to make ends meet with the money Tracy earned at her part time retail job, the family was evicted from their home.

For many months, Tracy and Joe worked hard to keep their family off of the streets, moving from place to place, staying with family and friends. Unable to resolve their financial crisis, they found themselves in a hotel room, out of money and getting ready to move into their car. That day was when Tracy found BPHI and moved her family into the Family Dorm at the Homeless Assistance Center.

The shelter and services provided by BPHI allowed the family to get their heads above water. Broward County Public Schools provided transportation for the children to attend school, and BPHI enrolled them in an after-school program. Working with BPHI’s Workforce Development Center, Tracy and Joe looked for work while Tracy received her GED. The on-site medical clinic treated Tracy’s back injury and Joe’s high blood pressure, making them more able to search for employment. Tracy is now working as a home health aide, and Joe has found a new landscaping job.

“We are so thankful that BPHI helped us keep things as normal as possible for the children,” said Tracy. Her daughter is now on the honor roll, and her son plays on a football team where he was named Offensive Player of the Year.

This year the family looking forward to enjoying the holidays in their own home. “We are so excited about being in our own home for the holidays,” said Tracy. “We plan to celebrate with the friends and families we have met at BPHI.”
