Fifty-three year old Conrad was a skilled woodworker with a serious drug and alcohol problem. After several years of substance abuse, Conrad found himself incarcerated for five years. During this period, he took stock of his life and decided this was not the path on which he wanted to continue. He enrolled in a drug abuse program and eventually ran the program. When Conrad was released, the Outreach Team referred him to BPHI. Once admitted, Conrad made a commitment to improve his life and not return to drugs. He worked with his behavioral health counselor and attended the 12-Step program. Through the Workforce Development Center he successfully found a job as a wood finisher making $22/hour. Conrad was able to save his money and moved into a transitional housing facility, where he will continue to save money, re-establish his life and maintain his sobriety. He spent the holidays in Chicago with the two daughters he hasn’t seen in eight years.
